Which Is Better For Investors, Physical Metal Or Paper Contracts?
Gold and silver are surging at prices never seen before. As stock markets keep fluctuating the rally will continue.. Investors are expecting the metals to outperform all the fiat currencies, and therefore are buying up gold and silver with their dollars. However, they are often faced with the dilemma of whether to buy physical metal or paper contracts with their money, savings or cash loans.
There is no universal answer to suit all kinds of investors. Physical metal is the most basic form of investing and absolutely nothing can go wrong. Of course, one needs to ensure that the metal is in the pure form and someone is not trying to cheat them. This can be resolved by buying from a reputed jeweler and getting the metal certified. It should be noted that this can increase the purchase price. Furthermore, coins certified by the mint government are another alternative to investing in metals..
However, physical gold and silver are not always feasible. For example, with an investor looking for silver or metal storage will always be an issue once the purchase is made, this is because the product is best purchased in several kilogram quantities.. Banks usually charge a fee for such storages and this adds to the investment cost. However, in looking to the future and for long term investment plans, physical metals are the best option. Renowned as one of the safest modes of investment. In addition, metal mostly sells at a premium as compared to the market prices, and this is especially so for coins and bars.
On the other hand, paper contracts for gold and silver are becoming increasingly popular among investors. This is because they are highly convenient to trade and easy to buy and sell. this often comes in the form of future contracts or exchange traded funds.
Paper gold and silver are very well suited for day-trading and short term trading, when one wants to make use of price differentials between a few days and accordingly buy and sell gold and silver. In its physical form this can be very hard to do, however, in the electronic trading scene it is just as easy to buy and sell shares online, taking a lot of the hard labour and guess work out of this type of investing.. People who are familiar with the stock market will find this to be easy and intuitive. Thus a lot of investors are taking cash loans now to enter the market expecting a strong bull rally, and this can be done in the paper form for short term investing or physical form for long term investing.
Paper not catching fire?
Wrap a piece of paper around a thick metal bar and place it in a flame. The paper will not catch fire. How can i explain this in terms of the conductivity of the metal paper? (the paper will not ignite until its temperature reaches about 230 degrees C)
The paper will not catch fire until it reaches 230 deg C. To the extent that the heat of the flame can be transfered through the paper to the metal bar fast enough to keep the paper below 230 deg C, the paper will not catch fire until the metal bar heats up to the point where the paper can no longer transfer the flame's heat fast enough.
The equation for heat transfer is Q = Cm(T2- T1) where Q is the quantity of heat transfered, C is the specific heat for the material, m is the mass and T2-T1 is the temperature difference. Thus, the quatity of heat transfered is directly proportional to the temperature difference, the mass and the specific heat of the material. So, as the bar heats up, the temperature difference becomes smaller and it is less able to take more heat. However, it's mass and specific heat are very important as well. A massive bar with a high specific heat (like copper) placed in a small flame might be able to transfer enough heat to keep the paper below 230 deg C indefinitely assuming the paper can transfer the heat to the bar effectively.
R.I.P. Marion Dougherty (Deadline Hollywood)
Marion Dougherty, a former Bergdorf-Goodman window dresser who rose to become
one of Hollywood's most influential casting directors, died December 4 in
Manhattan of natural causes. She was 88. Once called "the father of casting as
we know it" by Paul Newman, Dougherty was responsible for giving Al Pacino,
Gene Hackman, Jon Voight, Robert Redford, Warren Beatty, Dustin Hoffman, Ed
Asner, Anne Bancroft, Bette Midler, Christopher Walken and numerous others
their first breaks. She also was instrumental in the early careers of James
Dean and Robert Duvall. Dougherty entered the business casting the TV series
_Kraft Television Theater_, _Naked City_ and _Route 66_ during the late 1940s
and into the early 1960s. At that time, the end of the studio system meant
actors were free agents to be discovered in regional theaters, off-Broadway
and at local playhouses, and the demands of TV meant they had to be found
fast. She eventually moved into film casting, where she revolutionized the
process by moving away from type-casting and toward character and
individuality. Her movie credits include casting Pacino in _Panic In Needle
Park_, Redford in _Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid_, Voight and Hoffman in
_Midnight Cowboy,_ as well ...
