The US Wants An Economical Ford!
The new Ford Fiesta seems like the perfect car for the environmentally friendly movement. This humble little car can fit a small famile and get excellent fuel economy. The bummer is this fuel efficient car will not be made available to the American buying public.
Despite the Fiesta ECOnetic’s definite potential to compete with the other US manufactures, Ford will only sell the Fiesta in Europe. The President of Ford said that they could not sell the Fiesta in the US for "business reasons" whatever that means.
Ford is aprehensive about selling the car here in America, due to the public's negative view on diesel fuel. Diesel cars have the nasty stigma of being smelly, smog emitting cars to the general US public.
Current vehicles powered by diesel have such advanced clean technology that they are 30% more efficient while emitting less harmful pollutants. Why won't Ford bring the 65 MPG Fiesta to our market? Ford feels like the America's will not buy diesel cars. Ford thinks that even though the Fiesta is on par with the best Europe has to offer, it would not sell well in the US.
Further more, this vehicle is manufacturered in England and would cost a pretty penny to be shipped overseas to the US.The main problem is will American's ever see Diesel as an alternative to regular gas, enought so that car makers will make a profit on Diesel cars?Volkswagen has been selling diesel cars in American for quite some time now. The Jetta costs about what the Fiesta would cost, gets only 41 MPG on the highway as compared to the Fiesta’s 65 MPG, and finally the Jetta has received numerous accolades for being an ultra green car.Volkswagen is loving the fact that there is not other diesel passenger car to compete with.
