(b) How high would a can of radius 10 cm need to be if the longest pencil that would fit
was 25 cm?
(c) What would be the radius of a can of height 12 cm in which the longest pencil that

A) .longest pencil's length should be equal to the length of the hypotenuse
here h = 12, rad = 10cm => diameter = 20cm
Now apply Pythagoras theorem :
=> hypotenuse^2 = 12^2 + 20^2
=> hypotenuse = 23.32cm = height of the longest pencil
B). now hypotenuse = 25cm ; again diameter = 20cm
apply Pythagoras theorem :
25^2 = hieght ^2 + 20^2
=> height^2 = 625 - 400 = 225
=> new height = 15cm
C). here hypotenuse = 13cm
height = 12cm
we know,
diameter^2 + height^2 = hypotenuse^2
=> diameter^2 = 169 - 144 = 25
=> diameter = 5cm
so radius = 2.5cm
